Hello, my name is Amy
I am so pleased you have visited my website. Like you, I have experienced situations and emotions that felt overwhelming and that made me feel stuck, unable to see a way forward. I became a qualified counsellor at the age of 38 because I want to support people who are struggling with their current challenges. I am a person centred counsellor at my core but I am keen to work with you as an individual and adapt to your needs. Being person centred means I let you lead the sessions and take it where you need to. I will be by your side offering a therapeutic space for you to explore your reasons for coming to counselling. It’s important to me that you feel heard, understood, accepted and valued and I will use my training and skills to make this happen. I will be there for you through your difficult feelings and support you to feel safe to go there. You don’t have to face your challenges alone.

Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My Therapy Philosophy
I will work to get to know you and what works for you. When I think of peace, calm and tranquillity I picture the sparkling sea of the Ionian and Aegean sea, which is what inspired the branding behind Amy Jacobs Counselling. I also picture the cherry blossom trees in Spring. I know it could be different for you. Our experiences will be different. I want to meet you in your world and your frame of reference.
Understanding Your Journey Together
I am a warm and kind person who strives to understand your situation and will always listen. My commitment is to get to know you and discover what way of
working is best for you. Each of us has unique encounters and perspectives. My aim is to meet you in your world, understanding it from your frame of reference.
I am dedicated to providing compassionate and specialised support to individuals and couples who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss.
In November 2024, I will be undertaking specialist training with Sands, a leading
organisation in this field, to deepen my understanding and enhance my ability to support those affected by such profound grief. While this area of focus is
close to my heart, I remain committed to working with all individuals seeking support, no matter their experiences or challenges. My practice is a safe and inclusive space where all clients are welcome.
I am committed to ongoing learning and my own development as a person and a practitioner. I regularly attend workshops and CPD training to ensure I am always curious and ready to hold any issue that comes into the room.
How Therapy Works For You
Therapy provides a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with a trained professional. It can help you understand and address underlying issues contributing to challenges in your life, such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, or trauma.
In a typical session, you’ll discuss your concerns with your counsellor. They may ask questions, offer insights, and help you develop coping strategies. The session is a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Most people attend counselling sessions weekly, but the frequency can be adjusted based on your needs.
The duration of counselling varies depending on your needs and goals. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (e.g., 6-12 sessions), while others engage in long-term therapy.
Consider counselling if:
- You’re struggling with emotional difficulties or life challenges.
- You feel overwhelmed or unable to cope.
- Your relationships are suffering.
- You’re experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition.
- Be open and honest with your counsellor.
- Actively participate in sessions.
- Be committed to the process.
- Practice the skills and strategies you learn outside of sessions.
